North Korea's Kim Jong-un Mobilizes Support for Palestine

Tensions Rise as North Korea Condemns Israel

SEOUL, South Korea (Reuters) - October 10, 2023

North Korean state media on Tuesday accused Israel of instigating the bloodshed in Gaza, sparking concerns that the reclusive regime may be considering providing support to the besieged Palestinian territory.

Kim Jong-un, the enigmatic leader of North Korea, has reportedly ordered officials to "mobilize all necessary resources" to assist the Palestinians.

"We strongly condemn the Israeli aggression and demand an immediate end to the bloodshed," said a statement released by North Korea's foreign ministry. "We stand firmly behind the Palestinian people in their just struggle for freedom and independence."

Experts believe that North Korea's stance on Israel could further escalate tensions in the region, as Pyongyang has long refused to recognize Israel's right to exist.

"North Korea has typically avoided taking a public stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," said Kim Arin, an analyst at the Sejong Institute in Seoul. "This shift in policy suggests that Kim Jong-un may be seeking to align himself with other anti-Western forces in the Middle East."

South Korea, a key ally of the United States, has expressed concern over North Korea's potential involvement in the conflict.

"We urge North Korea to refrain from any actions that could further destabilize the region," said a spokesperson for South Korea's Foreign Ministry.

The international community is closely monitoring North Korea's next steps, as any support for the Palestinians could have significant implications for regional peace and security.
